YMCA Camp Hough has three seasons of employment.  While the Summer provides the largest variety of positions, the Spring and Fall has a great part time opportunity as well.

All applicants must be 18 years of older unless specified otherwise in the listing below. 

Due to our location on the shores of Silver Lake, a lifeguard certification is a bonus to any position. 

Individuals will also be required to obtain their CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications prior to their first day of employment.  GLOW YMCA maybe able to assist in this process.

Availability

Spring/Fall Facilitators $9/hour, hours vary per week

We are looking for individuals with a variety of skills to facilitate the different programs we offer during our Spring and Fall seasons.  As a program facilitator, you will be working hands-on with school groups, girl scouts, corporate retreats, and more.  Whether you have years of experience, or you are just starting out in the field, we can be the perfect place for you to grow and succeed in the Outdoor Education and Leadership world.  We are looking for individuals that are passionate and hard workers.  Experience in life guarding, archery, team building, and/or belaying is a plus!

 

Cabin Counselor $190-$220/week

Counselors are the backbone of our camp. We are looking for staff that are willing to work hard and put the campers’ experience first.  Counselors are responsible for the care and general morale of the campers each week.  A camper’s positive experience can be directly related to the relationships fostered by his/her counselors.  Cabin Counselors will have the chance to work in a variety of program areas and will be the lead in their cabin structure.  Previous experience working with school age children is preferred.

 

Day Camp Counselor $9/hour, hours vary

Day Camp Counselors are not required to live on camp property.  They will work between three and six hours a day, Monday-Friday.  Day Camp Counselors are responsible for the care, supervision, and morale of all campers they are assigned to.  These employees must have reliable transportation if living off property.  If you choose to live on camp, pay and hours may differ.  Previous experience working with school age children is preferred.

 

Program Counselor $190-$220/week

Program Counselors will be responsible for facilitating specific activity areas.  These programs include, swimming lessons, canoe/kayaking, archery, rock climbing/high ropes, team building, and arts & crafts. Program Counselors must have previous experience in the area they are applying to facilitate.  These individuals will also be assigned to a cabin alongside a Cabin Counselor. When not facilitating their assigned program area, they are expected to spend time with their cabin group and assist the Cabin Counselor in supervision.

 

Assistant Director $300-$350/week

(Must be 21 or older)

This position plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations of our residential Summer camp program. This individual will be active in the supervision of camp staff and facilitation of staff training. The Assistant Director will be a leader in the brainstorming of camp programs and will monitor the needs of all non-aquatic program areas. She/he will assist the Director in keeping the parents and staff informed.  As a member of the Leadership Team, the Assistant Director must have strong communication skills and the ability to adapt when the situation requires it.  The Assistant Director must have the least two seasons of summer camp (or related) experience, preferably residential.

 

Aquatics Director $300-$350/week

(Must be 21 or older)

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the aquatic programming (swimming and boating.)  This individual will be active in the supervision of camp staff and facilitation of staff training. This individual will also be responsible for lesson plans, equipment management and inventory, and general maintenance of all aquatic program areas. Must have experience as a lifeguard. Canoeing, kayaking, and/or sailing experience preferred. Waterfront Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swimming Instructor certification will be required prior to start date.

 

Day Camp Director $300-$350/week

(Must be 21 or older)

The Day Camp Director is responsible for the day-to-day delivery and programming of our Day Camp. The Day Camp Director will be the main contact for the parents/guardians of its participants and will oversee the daily check-in/check-out procedures. This individual will be active in the supervision of camp staff and facilitation of staff training. It is preferred that the Day Camp Director resides on camp for the duration of employment.  Two summers experience in camping or a related field required.

 

Camp Nurse $400-$425/week or one resident camp campership

(Must be RN, LPN, or MP)

The Camp Nurse will be responsible for the health and wellbeing of all campers and staff. The Nurse will oversee all medication distribution, camper health check-in, and be responsible for following all Health Department Standards as laid out by the Camp Director. Experience working with school age children preferred.  Applicants may apply for a full summer of employment, or partial summer.  Ask the Camp Director for more information.

 

Head Cook $10/hr

(Must be 21 or older)

The Head Cook will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, safety, and cleanliness of the kitchen, in accordance with the NYS Department of Health regulations, as well as all aspects of meal planning. The Head Cook will be expected to make weekly food orders while staying within the provided budget. Department of Health Commercial Kitchen Training or ServSafe certification required.

 

Assistant Cook $9.25/hr

The Assistant Cook will be responsible for upholding all expectations provided to them by the Head Cook and will be in charge in his/her absence.  This position hold the second shift, 12:30-7:30pm, Monday-Friday, with the opportunity for a morning shift on Saturdays.  Prior experience in a commercial kitchen required.

 

Dishwasher $9/hr

(Must be 16 or older)

The Dishwasher will be responsible for upholding all expectations provided to them by the Head Cook.  They will assist in meal prep and dining hall cleaning when instructed.  Two shifts are available.  Either 9am-1:30pm Monday-Friday or 5pm-7:30pm Sunday-Friday.

 

Maintenance Director 

(Must be 21 or older)

The Maintenance Director will be responsible for the up-keep of the camp grounds and buildings. Tasks include facility cleaning, landscaping, and general maintenance. Seasonal Employment Mid-April through September.
