For over 100 years GLOW YMCA Camp Hough has been providing the ‘Summer of a Lifetime’ on the shores of Silver Lake in Western New York. Our camp primarily serves youth from Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming counties. Our main function is to serve as a coed resident camp for youth ages 6-14. YMCA Camp Hough also provides day camp in conjunction with the Wyoming County YMCA for youth ages 5-12. In the spring and fall we host youth and corporate groups for programming and team building activities. Our program facilities include a swimming pool, waterfront, archery, low/high ropes course, and two rock climbing walls.
YMCA Camp Hough sessions begin June 28 and run through August 16. All staff training will be held June 20-June 26. Additional Employment Opportunities April through October.
Resident Camp Counselor (Must be at least 18 and a High School Graduate by June 28, 2015).
Counselors are the backbone of our camp staff. They live in a cabin with their campers and together with their co-counselor are responsible for the leadership, supervision, and programming of their campers. Counselors are also assigned to lead specific programs each week based on knowledge, skill level, and certifications. Responsibilities for programs include lesson plans, daily class instruction, equipment management and inventory, and general program area maintenance.
Resident Camp Counselor Job Description
Resident Camp Assistant Director-Programs Specialty (Must be at least 21 and a High School Graduate by June 28, 2015)
This position is responsible for assisting in the general day-to-day operations of YMCA Camp Hough. This position will have an active role in supervision of camp staff and staff training. Their role will focus on creative camp programming and scheduling. The Assistant Director-Programs Specialty should be ready and willing to work with Campers, Families, and Staff as an integral part of the YMCA Camp Hough Leadership Team. This position will arrive prior to staff training.
Resident Camp Assistant Director-Aquatics Specialty (Must be at least 21 and a High School Graduate by June 28, 2015)
This position is responsible for assisting in the general day-to-day operations of YMCA Camp Hough focusing on aquatic programming (swimming and boating). This position will have an active role in supervision of camp staff and staff training. This position will also be responsible for lesson plans, daily class instruction, equipment management and inventory, and general program area maintenance. Must have experience as a lifeguard. Canoeing, kayaking, sailing experience preferred. Waterfront Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swimming Instructor certification will be required.
Day Camp Director (Must be at least 18 and a High School Graduate by June 28, 2015)
The Day Camp Director is responsible for the general day-to-day delivery and programming of the Day Camp Program at YMCA Camp Hough. Day Camp begins and ends each day at the Wyoming County YMCA. Campers and staff are bused out to YMCA Camp Hough to spend the majority of their day. The Day Camp Director will be the main contact for the parents/guardians of day campers and will run day camp check-in/check-out. He/She will maintain records, adhere to safety guidelines, and supervise camp counselors while at the Wyoming County YMCA. The Day Camp Director is a part of the YMCA Camp Hough staff and is expected to live on-site at YMCA Camp Hough during the Resident Camp Week.
Resident Camp Nurse (Must be at least 18 and either RN, LPN, or equivalent)
The Resident Camp Nurse will be responsible for the health and wellbeing of each camper and staff member. The Nurse will oversee all medication distribution, camper health check-in, and be responsible for following Health Department Standards. Must be a RN, LPN, or equivalent.
Resident Camp Cook(Must be at least 18 and a High School Graduate by June 28, 2015)
The Resident Camp Cook plans and prepares meals, ensures the kitchen and dining areas are clean, and washes dishes.
Red Pines Staff: Spring and Fall
The Red Pines Staff work under the direction of the Camp Director to provide hospitality, direction, and programming for Red Pines groups at YMCA Camp Hough. Programming may include boating, archery, nature study, arts and crafts, rock climbing, team building, and the low/high ropes course.
